WIN’s information technology cluster includes occupations that are associated with entry level, technical and professional careers related to the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: A MULTI-INDUSTRY CLUSTER
This cluster is particularly unique in that IT occupations are embedded in many different types of industries beyond core IT, including but not limited to healthcare, manufacturing, and finance. Southeast Michigan has always been known as a manufacturing hub, but the integration of technology into this industry has changed both the landscape of that field and the talent needed to support it. As the auto industry integrates and markets cutting-edge technology in their products, the demand competition for IT employees focusing on creation, innovation, and sustainment of this technology is likely to grow.
Southeast Michigan has approximately 1,400 firms in just core IT alone, accounting for 45% of firms statewide. As other clusters expand their technology services, even more IT positions will open.
See the WIN Working Smarter Report for more information on the cluster as a whole.
